Default New commercials featuring phono tuntables.....

This morning (sat) I saw three new commercials on TV from well know national brands that featured turntables, if only briefly.
This was unheard of only a few months ago.

Is this an indication of even higher renewed interest in vinyl or, are ad agencies just lagging behind the times a bit?

I've been seeing ads with turntables somewhere in the background sporadically for a couple of years. Acura had one around 2010, (not available) and there is one for a Kohler generator set that's been around for a while and is still current: Kohler Generators TV Commercial, 'Dancing Family' - iSpot.tv

It means someone at the ad agency thought of a visual image that might set the desired mood. The two other ad agencies saw it and thus turntables were brought closer to the front of their minds.

In my opinion, and maybe no one else's, the renewed interest in vinyl, is ongoing, but like a roller coaster ride. A roller coaster starts with a large lift, then it whooshes down the first drop then back up a hil for another drop. At each subsequent hill, you can see the coaster climbing back to a new high, but it is never as high as the previous peak, and so it goes, with each new rise being less than the previous. Vinyl is like that. Every now and then someone comes out with a product like a $100 USB turntable, and folks get out their LPs. "Come on Dad, lets put your old records on the computer." And every now and then some band decides to release their new album on vinyl. But overall, there is less and less activity in the technology

There was a TV ad for Education Connection a couple years back, it started with a turntable with mustard and ketchup bottles on a turntable, then switched to a waitress who was going to go get an education. Turntable itself really had no relevance to the ad.

Sometimes a retro image is just appealing. Unless the comercials actually involved vinyl, I'd suspect any market interest in vinyl music per se was irrelevant to them.

WHo knows, maybe we will see some ad with a harried secretary in a beehive hairdo working a typwriter. (remember those?) Maybe she talks on a dial phone.
