How good is good enough?
Your sound system that is. And for the purposes here I'd like to exclude the pursuit of quality as an end in itself, analytic listening, background music, party music etc, and focus on the context of listening for maximum immersion and reward. So how, and why and to what extent does the quality of your system impact the quality of your involvement with music? At what point can you let go of concern for sound quality and surrender to the music itself. Also any relevant details of your listening approach would be interesting. For example, I always close my eyes in this mode (even at live performances unless I'm attending opera or ballet). Anyway, that sort of thing. eStatic

A good sounding lounge-room and comfortable seating are the first requirements in my experience. So how, and why and to what extent does the quality of your system impact the quality of your involvement with music? A really good system in a good room can lay bare tiny nuances not available in lesser systems, and this realness can add to musical performance enjoyment immensely. A system that does most but not all things right will always out do one that has any glaring sonics problems. Any glaring sonics problems can inhibit real enjoyment. At what point can you let go of concern for sound quality and surrender to the music itself. When gross errors are not present music becomes music. Also any relevant details of your listening approach would be interesting. For example, I always close my eyes in this mode (even at live performances unless I'm attending opera or ballet). Anyway, that sort of thing. I have a wonderfully comfortable hammock chair that gives a sense of weightlessness. Given a (my) good system, the right music can transport you to another dimension. Eric.

Sometimes when I change parameters everything sounds great for a few days/weeks. Highly compressed-sounding MP3s come alive. Need to trick my brain like that again some time...those St. Anger recordings are getting annoying....
