Default Yamaha RX-V361 receiver shutting off few seconds after powering on.

Got this broken receiver for free. This state is a consequence of overheating.
After powering a receiver on, it shuts down itself after few seconds. LCD doesn't turn on either. Something is triggering a protection circuit. Anyone had similar problems?

Yes, everyone who ever worked on solid state amplifiers.

Does it do this with NO speakers connected?

Check the output devices for shorts, check all rectifiers in the power supply for shorts. Start there.

Speakers are unplugged. I will check those 2 rectifiers (RS403M & KBP103G).

When you are satisfied there are no short circuits, place it in test most and see what the display tell you. Read the information and consult the service manual. It may be over current and can easily be a uProcessor power error. Does the Xtal oscillate on the uProcessor?
