Question Listening impressions of Krell KAV 400xi Integrated Amplifier

Hi,

I wonder if anyone has some subjective comments or done some serious listening to this amp. I dont want magazine review articles, which are basically advertising features. The reason why is that with the recent strength of our currency against the US dollar it has put this amp too close within reach of my dirty paws (if i stand on my tip toes). I am a bit daunted by going to some listening room at some hoity toity hifi shop and whats more they make you feel obliged to buy the thing right then and there, let alone the death stares if you want more time to decide (at home).

Thanks in advance

Justin

Hi,

I just have bought this amp on the Xmas Eve and after nearly half month listening I definately in love with this amp. The high frequency is now smoother when compared with the 300i and the Krell's famous bass response is still exist (That's the reason I bought this for). It seems that the high frequency have been extended beyond human ear can hear because i used it with my Decca Supertweeter which my previous amp was sound harsh! The human voice's definition is more detailed just like a singer singing before you and the sound stage is deeper. Now I can listening music at lower volumn level without sacrfied the bass response.

Due to our dollar is rising (Australian Dollars), the previous model 300il was listed $7995 and the 400xi is only $4995 which seem to be a best buy.

Our agent here (Len Wallis) have lend this amp for me to field testing at home before buying.

Regards,

Daunted or not you'll have to gather your strength and do it. No amount of opinions can replace listening with your own ears. Don't forget to make a number of snide remarks and really annoy the dealer. Then tell them you're thinking of buying off the net
Glad someone is enjoying the rise of the bloody rand.

cheers

Well Justin.. I don't know that particular amp, but I know Krell in general.. They are good looking and with some speaker systems great sounding amplifires, but that goes for them all..
It depends greatly on speaker system you own at the moment, and acustics of your room (that's why is the best to take amp to your place and listen there instead of demo room of your dealer..) If it is a really good dealer he is going to understand that..
Most important of all is your own impression.. What I or anybody else think doesn't count.. If you like it buy it, I would encourage you though to go and listen more than only one amp, because once you have it you're stuck with high costs that you'll never get back. And who knows maybe other machine sounds million times better and is maybe even cheaper than Krell..
Great's Phil..

I think we are quite a lot of people around the world who
enjoy the significant rise of our own currencies against
the dollar recently. Still a long way to go compared to the
summer 92, though.
