Default Need Help.... HOA6299-003 to drive relay

Hi,

I'm trying to use the 6922-002 (emitter) working on 2-7vdc as my transmitter and the 003 as my receiver working on 4.5-12vdc as my receiver. I would like to drive a relay with the 003 piece. It says the 003 has a NPN transistor internal. I am thinking that I would need more drive in order to operate a relay without burning out the 003.

The PNs are HOA6299-002 emitter and HOA6299-003 the transmissive receiver.

The HOA6299-003 has a maximum current sink capability of 10ma. See datasheet.

You could use it to drive an NPN transistor directly since the -003 has a 2.4K internal pull-up resistor. Something like a 2N3904 would give you over 100ma of drive if you are running your. -003 on 5V. It could also drive a logic level N-channel FET.
