Default NW DIY fest

This 2nd annual event happened on Saturday Nov 22 in Surrey BC (part of Greater Vancouver) at Al Wooley's (RAW) house.

The pictures i took got eaten by snakes but what follows are some of the pictures Al took.

I also have a list of the winners of the prizes and the donors (i won't get those up to-nite my bed is calling me).

I'd like to thank Al (& Bob -- Creative Sound) for hosting the event.

This is the main room, with a set of Ed's The Horns (with Fostex FE108Sigmas) up front and an array of speakers behind. Many of these are Al's creations. Amonst them are Aaron's flower pots (hilighted in another thread on the forum), a set of GR Research Criterions, Delusios (an MTM vrsion of the Criterions), a prototype of a 4" Adire XBL FR prototype. (I'm sure Al will chime in with more details of some of them).

Grunt supplied by Bottlehead paramours with a tweaked Foreplay (i don't know if any untweaked Foreplays exist)

4" VIFA fullranges with a Klang + Tong filter front & centre here. These were one of my 4 favorites of the event. VIFA keeps these off the FR radar by calling them midranges. These are MG10SD09-08 but perusal of the factory specs indicates that the MG10MD09-04 might be even better.

Up from the HT room below is a set of TangBand MTMs.

Here we have a set of stand-mounted ML-TQWTs with 4" TBs based on Martin's model. I didn't have a chance to hear these, but i was impressed that there is an ML-pipe stuffed in those little boxes. In the foreground are Terry Olsen's focused arrays with 2" radio shack clear-outs. These i did hear and were decidely gourmet Frugal-phile (tm) material.

Here are the room dividers i brought. Visaton B200 8" FR. I was wiring these up at midnight the night before and got my 1st real listen to these at the event. They were met with universal praise and after a week of listening to them at home they just keep getting better.

The big prize of the day -- in a very lieral sense was an Adire Maelstrom 18" subwoofer driver. It was drawn last and much to my delight i walked away with it... you can see that i currently have much less hair than any of my avatars.

The hi-lights of the show for me were the VIFA FRs, The Horns, the GR Criterion with the new parallel XO which does a pretty good job of disguising that it has an XO and with the ribbon has a superb top end, and the Visaton open baffles. Terry Olsens line arrays also deserve mention sounding way better than $50 worth of cheap drivers have any right to.
