QRD Question

Does it make any difference with 1D diffusers, if the wells are solid instead of hollow?

Also, do they have to be sealed at the top and bottom (where the frame meets the end of a cell)?

no

Compare these two.
The top is hollow, the bottom is solid.

In that case, no problem. The spaces behind might even be stuffed with fiberglass or whatever to perhaps absorb some bass. Depends on how stiff the wells are. I'm thinking you could make this out of cheap paper foamcore board (or free cardboard) and paint it. Beware of fire hazards, though, your mileage may vary.

What should I use for spacing between the wells?

I was considering 1/4" plywood, but the only piece I can find which is nice on both sides, is maple - and it's $30!
Also, it's quite .. wavy. It's certainly not flat.

I want to use pine or birch for the face of the wells... I could use hardboard as the spacer, but I want it to look nice.

Suggestions?

Really, no edit button!?

... I could use 1/2" plywood, too - but it seems like that would look pretty bad even if the edges are veneered, for the dividers?

Edit button disappears after 30 minutes.

I think they make 1/8" lauan plywood that looks fairly nice.
