Default Acer 7011D Computer Monitor

My faithful Acer (model: 7011D) computer monitor smoked yesterday!
I was still busy playing games when I smell something burning!

I then saw smoke come out of the monitors breathing holes!
I imidietnly switched it off unpluged it and opened it up to find
that a component labeled VRT601 is roasted black!

I have tryed to find the schemetic to no avail!

can anybody tell me what this component is or give me the schemetic diagram

Umm,

We aren't supposed to talk about repairing TV's (liability risk if someone plugs themselves in after getting help here and the grieving widow decides to sue diyAudio). Since a monitor is a TV with a fancy input, I expect this is also off limits.

If you want to persist anyway, I suggest you check out SAM's they use to sell schematics for TV's and may have schematics for your monitor. Given how cheap monitors are today (I just bought a good working 17" monitor for $15), I doubt if it is worth spending any time or money repairing yours.

Phil

There are very high voltages inside a Monitor/TV, the tube can hold a charge for days, so just turning off and unplugging doesn't make it safe.

If you don't know what your are doing, do as Phil says and buy a new one. It's not really worth getting cheap monitors repaired these days, costs almost as much as a new one.

Regards,

Tony.

The part No. sounds like it's an MOV though...probably just ran into a spike and blew up...or it reached it's end-of-life...

MOV = Metal Oxide Varistor

It is a protection device which is used to "clamp" transient voltages.
