i just turned it on!
But won't this cause other problems?

yeah...it will...lets say some lightning just went in...everything will break...with the MOV...just the MOV breaks..easy to understand?? it actually sacrifices itself itself to protect your monitor...replacing it is not gonna be very expensive...just get one with the correct volatge rating...I might be able to dig one up for you...
