We have a lot of laser effect lights and someone told me that the sun destroys the laser in them. Is that true? If so why does sun light distroy them?

Yeh. We have those laser lights that make those patterns, the ones they use in clubs and my mate said not to let the sun light shine on it because it damages the laser inside. Ever heard of that?

No, I haven't heard of that and I think he is pulling your leg as I hinted at in my last post.
For the benefit of our international audience, "pulling your leg" means having a joke at your expense. |

when I first read the post, my first thought was a laser powerful enough to blow up the sun.
![]() The sun might be able to destroy the laser if you operate it under the sun causing overheating and then burning out the laser in it. |

I would skip the hear-say and contact the manufacturer. Sunlight does bad things to phosphors, but I can't think of anything it would do to a gas discharge tube. Probably not great for a semiconductor. How much sunlight do you get inside a nightclub?
