Hey guys,
These might just sound like silly questions

, but, what are the specific differences between audiophile grade speakers and those of THX certification?
Can THX speakers play music in an audio only set-up and give good sound output?

There are a few certification levels of THX.
For the most part they have to do with frequency response and SPL level.
One stat with the speakers is flat to 80hz, because that is where THX subwoofers are required to come in.

I do understand that there is a specific crossover point set at 80hz. What I wish to know is how are they musically. I have seen speakers advertised at being THX certified. Crossover specs, notwithstanding, would THX speakers present the same sonics as reference speakers.

Maybe yes......maybe no.
A speaker that is THX certified might be great for movies but not so good for music.
I believe Emotiva made some THX certified speakers that didn't receive great reviews across the board.
