Is there something like varnish or Mod Podge, that I can get from local stores to waterproof the paper cones of my 15" speakers?

Ouch. Not if you want to get the same performance with them (or doesn't this matter?)
You'll change the mass loading, breakup patterns, rigidity, everything (believe it or not, loudspeaker manufacturers do lots of research and experimenting on this.) But it's only the bass drivers, right? One thing I once did on an installation in a very damp environment was seal the bass drivers in polythene rubbish bags (thin), seal off screw holes and cable entry with silicone, screw the speakers in place and use a heat shrink gun to get the plastic really tight, so it didn't rattle or flutter. Not entirely satisfactory sound wise, but two years ago they were still working after twelve years in place. |
