Yes I know the answer. This is the Bethel Amphitheatre at the old Yasgur Farm, Woodstock site. Seems like they're still there.

Cal,
Can we talk? OK... LTV! Sorry to be so scary! But the merger mania of that day really did have an effect. So lets be clear about vintage Altec and some of the stuff labelled Altec! |

Steve, I love the Joe Cocker thing at the bottom of that page. I'm still laughing.
Simon, I have no idea what your message is. I just had fun with the shape of the amphitheatre. |

Cal,
The shape is classic Altec. I know you are a big fan. That tells me you don't go after the junk made in later years. The Altec guys I knew blamed it all on LTV Altec getting used as leverage in mergers, saddled with debt and unable to even get the parts they needed to continue production, not even consider new research. The there was the tangerine phase plug. As I understand that one, the research guys had spent 2 million and pretty much confirmed everything that was already known, so they had to come up with something new to justify the expense. So yes the picture looks just like a classic horn because the basic principles are the same! |

Value of original '69 Woodstock program? BTW, the concert site has been completly revamped and is now the "Bethel Music And Arts Center" where concerts are regulaly held in the summer. I doubt that any of the original sound components are still there over 40 years later. Last edited by JoeDJ; 20th July 2011 at 09:42 PM. |
