Simple 12V DC Power Supply for a Beginner?

I'm going to be building a DacKit, and I'll also need to make a 12V power supply. Searching has turned up various discussions on optimizing power supplies, but what I'm looking for is (I guess) a basic 12V DC regulated power supply schematic (or even better, a tutorial) that would work well with a DAC.

From there, I can expand my knowledge by tweaking, but for now I want to get something simple to work.

Hi Mike,

When I get started with diy I bought a book from RadioShack I think it will be very useful for your purpose. The title of the book is "Building Power Supplies" by David Lines developed and published by Master Publishing, Inc.

I found this book is very useful for newbie like myself and it has step by step projects come with schematic, parts list, and theory behind it too. One of the project is a regulated 12V power supply.
