Hi all,
Has anyone tried the following technique for making speaker cable?
Cut 7 lengths of 22awg ofhc that will be long enough to connect your amp to your speakers. Then cut 7 pieces of unbleached cotton tubing about 2 inches shorter than the wire. Insert each wire into each of the cotton tubes and twist the 7 piece combination about six turns per foot. Before you twist the 7 wire/cotton group adjust to leave about 1 inch of wire sticking out of each end of the cotton tube.
Then cut a length of PTFE or FEP shrink tube longer than the cotton to compensate for shrinkage of the shrink tube. Insert the twisted 7 wire bundle into the PTFE or FEP shrink tubing and shrink to a tight fit to compress the 7 piece bundle tightly, then seal the ends with a low dielectric constant sealer that is compatible with copper. Leave about an inch of the 7 bare twisted wires extending beyond the sealed tubing at each end to allow connection from amp to speakers. Use the connections of your choice. This will give you one length of about 14awg wire. Make four of these for two speakers. if you bywire you need to make more.
