Just read this and figured i should start with a question. These are mic cables not cables to interconnect 2 pieces of gear with xlr connectors, right? Because although they look the same they dont work the same.

Havent made a mic cable for a while but the Mogami used to be kinda the standard for higher end recording studios, and everybody else used the Canare (almost as good, a lot cheaper). And dont scrimp on the ends. This is the big choice. Unless you can afford the Neutrix , but there must some good competition these days? Some one used a cheaper alternative I dont know about?

he Star-Quad cables would be a good choice, but their high capacitance might cause difficulties in a few cases. In other cables look for symmetrical construction. Those with foil shields and a drain wire are a poor choice.

This capacitance shoudnt be a problem for the low impedance mic inputs. And the quad construction is better for EM rejection. Yes foil shields bad, braided shield good. And remember to connect the shield at both ends for mic cables (usually only one end for interconect cables, but then you rethink the whole cable)
