Anyone built a DIY vocal microphone?

I'm looking into building a vocal microphone for my friend who's a pretty good singer. He's not happy with his current mic (it's a USB mic). Has anyone ever built a microphone for singing purpose?

I have found some simple tutorials with schematics, but I can't find any info on how to acquire a microphone chassis. I don't have the tools to make one myself, so that's out of the question.

All advice on building a microphone is highly appreciated
