i thought some would be interested in links to "Test and Measurement World" articles on the professional use of computer sound cards for real world engineering problems. Here's one in which a sound card from Creative does the job of an $80,000 spectrum analyzer:

Soundcards are great for AC measurements. I've been doing that for years with Labview. I'm in the middle of designing a complete speaker measurement package in Labview, here's one of my early impedance measuring windows, where I'm measuring the input impedance of the original Quad ESL:
