Default Vintage audio trivia question

ok, i don't have tickets for two on a Riviera cruise... i don't even have two cents to rub together sometimes, but here's one that should have everyone digging out old service manuals...

A manufacturer of high end preamps and power amps in the 1980's had a small unobtrusive joke in the service manual for their preamp line. the joke is this, the "Tone Defeat" switch is marked in the schematic with two positions... Defeat and Victory. Which manufacturer, and which preamp?

That is Trivia indeed! Pretty good.

I remember a manual that had the name "Zaphod Beeblebrox" used in several examples.
But that was for a hi-res camera, not audio.

I remember hearing a tale of a service engineer who encountered a test point on a board labelled AFTP, which was not mentioned in the manual.
Upon making enquires with the manufacturer he was informed - with much mirth - that the label denoted "Another F****** Test Point".

i don't remember the processor with Power and Glory switches....
i used to have a copy of a TI data sheet. apparently in the early days of making their LEDs, about half of the LED dice worked and half of them didn't because the process was new, and not completely reliable. so an engineer came up with a use for the half that didn't work.... the DED (Dark Emitting Diode) and published a data sheet for them... i wish i still had that one, because i can't find a copy on the web... i also used to have the National Semiconductor data sheet for a POP-amp and the Signetics Write-Only-Memory.... there's also a MSDS sheet for Dihydrogen Monoxide

there was a company that made RS-232 video terminals, SOROC. the origin of the company name? it's an anagram for COORS (as in beer)...

I have a Mackie equipment brochure that lists, in the specification section, the weight of the Corporate Chihuahua. (Use Google to search for Mackie "Corporate Chihuahua".)
