Default The listening chair

OK, how about the chair?
We all spend a lot of time, effort and maybe even money on the sound system - but what about the chair?

Isn't having a good comfy chair a real blessing to the listening experience? I have a couple of OK chairs, but they are not great. Today I was at a furniture store and checked out a few reclining chairs. Sweet! Some of them would be well worth the price.

There were some notable differences, and not just in comfort. The position of the head in full recline is different on different chairs. My fav was a big, soft leather chair that seemed to be made for home theater. Even all the way back, my ears were aimed in the right direction. And it had 2 cup holders. =)

So what do you guys think? How important is your chair in your listening pleasure? If you listen to a lot of music, you'll spend a lot of time there.

Agreed!

Although, I prefer not have any support for my head. I've found that the sound changes depending on whether you have something right behind your ears, like a big leather chair. Much rather have the area behind the head open.

I have to have a sealed leather or plastic chair because the dust that porous-surfaced furniture collects is death for me via allergy and asthma. I had to cover the seat of my van with industrial adhesives to seal it and I'm currently sitting on the plywood remains of an office chair.

Oh this reminds me that my old Pontiac Fiero has two 4" full range speakers built into the headrest of the seat.

Ha, my old Mazda Miata did too! Really helped with the top down.

I sure understand about not having anything behind the head. It does change the sound. For better or worse I don't know... Do we need something like a dentist chair, with a small headrest? (Yikes!)

The chair (or sofa) is important, that's for sure.

I like office chairs myself. I went to Staples (office suppliers). I must have sat in 50 chairs, in the end I bought the most expensive they had, which is not my usual style. We use them in the HT/computer room, we have laminate flooring, they slide around great. These things are designed for some serious sitting.

A 100 inch screen, comfy chairs, 'Strictly Come Dancing' in Hi Def... my wife thought 'projector' meant a slide-show.

Priceless.

A good listening chair should not go above your shoulders
Maybe also have a plaid over your legs

Also works to place a pillow right below each speaker

I have been around that, tho dont care much about it today
But it is important, if you want optimal listening conditions

Marekst, Im sure you sleep nicely in that chair

What a great idea- sit and listen...WOW! The radio does that for me but usually for the radio sitting is in the "horizontal" position with feet higher than head. When grinding records or spinning CDs sitting just does not seem much of an option. Must be a listening position problem or maybe a better chair is needed? Will look into this. Thanks for the great thought!

I rather like the "Stressless" chairs from Ekornes, but have to settle for cheap knockoffs.
