I was looking up things that are made out of ferrite other than ferrite cores, and I noticed that VHS tape among other things is coated with ferrite powder. If I wrapped a cord with the tape from a VHS/audiocassette would it have any positive effect? Asking this because I have plenty of old videocassettes I have no use for/ could get more for practically nothing if I search yard sales for tapes nobody ever wants (how to use your Nordictrack etc.), and I have plenty of things like that at home as it is

good thinking
It's a really thin coating and if you wrap a lot of turns is stll just a fraction to a percent of the total. I'm sure it would have a positive effect at higher freqs but not enough to claim victory over tried and true ferrite cores. Go for it
