help identify the purpose of this circuit

I have done this years ago but due to other priorities I have to put the project on hold. and since I lost my files more than a year ago, I cannot search there. I did a net search but quite frankly, I'm not sure what to ask.

anyway, here's what I have:
2 capacitors + 4 diodes

With 4 diodes and 2 caps you can make a dual (split) supply with a suitable centre tapped transformer.

You don't draw diodes like that
Taking the nearest to what you have drawn, and they actually "short" the supplies.

I do not think this is connected to a transformer though. Somehow I recall that is somewhat related to a "slow turn-on" circuit. But I could be wrong hence the reason for this thread.

You can only do so much with those components. What value were the caps ?
There must be more to the circuit.

Was it in the AC primary circuit of a transformer to cut DC from the windings and make it run quieter ?
