First, I'm totally new to this electronics thing, but I really enjoy it, and I am really looking forward to learning a lot more about it.
Ok, I'm trying to build a headset microphone that is powered by phantom power, and I found this schematic online: ![]() So I thought that would work so I decided to build it, then I realized I needed to plan it ahead before building it. So I made this drawing, and I am just wondering if this is correct? ![]() The top TS jack will connect to the capsule, and the bottom XLR will connect to the mixer. DocZ |

Yes, that's right... for a small electret type mic capsule (e.g. panasonic WM62 6mm dia).
P.S. the choice of input series capacitor is important here. |

"The Art of Linear Electronics" by John Linsley Hood is an excellent primer

Thanks for this recommendation! I'm looking for more information like this (good basic information for people trying to get in to this hobby). Can you make any more recommendations?

Sorry to revive this old thread. But I have a question. I left this project before completing it because I had to go to the hospital, then I forgot about it for a while, then I found the drawing while cleaning up my computer.
So I thought I'd pickup where I left off. In the schematic there is 10uF non-polar caps, these have been quite difficult to source. The only ones I found were huge. These are coupling capacitors right? Is there a way I can could alter this to use polarized electrolytic caps? Without danger to the circuit? Thank you, DocZ Last edited by docz; 24th September 2010 at 08:22 PM. |

Those capacitors can be 10 uF "standard" polarized electrolytics, with the + sides going to the more positive voltages, which are the "HOT" and "COLD" terminals. Voltage rating of these should be 50V, so the phantom power 48V doesn't exceed their ratings.
