I'll break it down a little to avoid similar questions in the future. 1. The black dot means that you have posted in the thread 2. The lines coming off the top mean that it is a hot topic (i'm not sure how the system determines this) 3. The fact that the envelope is grey means that there are no new posts since you last viewed the thread. Hope this helps.
