Default Vale: David Hafler

This message arrived in my mail this morning about the passing of David Hafler. I have not been able to verify it by another source, but I don't doubt it's veracity, and I thought people here would like to know.

There are many here who have benefitted from David's work in audio, both in the tube and solid state fields, as listeners, engineers and enthusists. I would like to offer condolences to Mr Hafler's family and friends, and express my gratitude for the work he shared with us.

Truely sad. His foresite to build kit amplifers that a broke just out of high school kid could kinda afford is what sucked me into the audio habit. We might have dreamed of Thresholds and other such stuff, but we could buy a Hafler. And I can say proudly that 20 years later, his amp still sounds good.

Thanks a bunch.

Indeed the passing of an Audio Giant... down in the lab sit at least 6 Dynacos (not to mention various shelf units built from A25 & A10 boxes) & a pr of Haflers... his stuff was a staple of the business when i sold hifi in the late 70s...

He will be sadly missed, but his legacy will continue on.

I built a PAT-5 and a Stereo 400 as my first two audio kits (for other people). I was very impressed. Thank you David.

That is sad... 84 is a good life.

As many of you know, I've designed quite a few boards to keep alive and improve many of Halfer's tube designs.

He was very good at designing to a price point, and making a successful product.
