Location: Mar del Plata, a BIG seasonal getaway city, can see the Ocean from our residence.
My take on the first 'surround' coding was both channels summed difference signal L-R, applied toward the rear (2Ch) with a 40 ms delay.........The ear "filled in" the spatial directional thru "Perceptions".
There were later "steering" signals...of which I don't know.
