Default Hisense crt tv audio volume issues

Hi, I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I have a Hisense CRT tv (unsure of the model number), the issue is whenever you turn the tv on the volume is ALWAYS at maximum, and it slowly turns down to zero volume.

The LED is flashing like someone is pressing a button on the tv or the remote, so the first thing I did was disconnect the button on the TV, and disconnected the IR input. It didn't fix the problem. Also, a dodgy button or IR sensor would not explain why the TV turns on a maximum every time.

The main processor on it is a Phillips chip marked OM8373PS however no data is around for any chip like that.

What do you think would be the problem??
Sorry I haven't given much information, but I'm not sure what you need to know.

Thanks in advance...

Try this: http://www.digchip.com/datasheets/pa...64/TDA8373.php

Might have EEPROM somewhere to remember last volume setting. These have limited write cycles so it could just be worn out. You could probably pot it down externally to the chip as long as it isn't clipping.

HTH,
Bri.

PS. Don't know much about TVs, but be careful, the chassis used to be at 1/2 mains or something equally painful.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah the chassis is still at a high voltage. I wouldn't go touching it, even if its been off for a few min it would still arc to the leads of the multimeter.

That datasheet you sent cant be the right one, the chip i have here is 64 pin and the one in the data sheet was only 54. I think the chip is actually a TDA9373. That data sheet seems to line up with what I have here in the TV in terms of what pin goes where.

Your probably right about it being worn out. I think i will just bypass the inbuilt volume control, and control it manually instead. Any ideas on how to then remove the word "volume....." from the OSD?

Thanks, Cheers...............
