Default Sound Issues.

Hello
My first post....
I used to have a setup of 2 turntables and a phonic mixer and I remember opening the mixer up as it was old and checking some of the wiring and resoldering ones that looked a bit dodgy.
When I put it all back together again hooked it up,I played some music through it and the sound was different. It was 1000% better than it was before, the bass was under my feet rather than booming and the cones on the speakers were hardly moving at all, but producing a lot of sub bass, whereas before they were moving loads but not producing that much bass, and they were chuffing.
It was like I had a subwoofer under the floor. Every note was as clear as day.The bass was moving up and down the floor underneath my feet.
The speakers were only Mission 760i's. The overall Sound, mid and treble was really good too. It was a truly night and day difference.
I had never heard the music that clear before and I have never heard it like that since.
Ive gone through a few different mixers and components over the years and have never had the sound that good again.
I always remember how it sounded as It was so great and different.
It makes me wonder if there is a fault somewhere in some audio equipment from the source to the speakers and If there is a way of testing it to see whats going wrong.

My Amplifier at the moment is a Samson Servo 550 and have Tannoy Reveal monitors.

Does anyone experience or know what Im talking about?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

Could it be related to the speaker placement? Where are they now and where were they before? For example, being near a wall or in the corner of a room usually augments the bass response.

Are the speakers sitting on something different? A stand, a shelf, furniture?

Is it a different room now compared to when it was better?

Which version of the Reveals are you using?

best wishes,
Martin.

Did you disconncet your speakers in this process?

Do you know what speaker phase means?

Try this:
Normally when listening to stereo speakers, or even two speakers in mono separated by a distance, the sound SEEMS to come from the center point between the speakers. If you position yourself to listen to both speakers, does your sound seem to come from the center, or does it appear to come from all around you , some direction your ears can;t quite determine?

If your speakers are out of phase, you get a lot of bottom end cancellation, the speakers are fighting each other.

By the way, are you using a subwoofer? Many people get the wiring to those confused, and that too results in phase problems.

Thanks for the reply
The speakers were at the time never moved and flat against the wall.
I wouldnt put such a change in sound down to speaker placement, as the whole sound changed not just the bass.

I dont know what I did in the mixer to change it so much, connected something or disconnected something, like a signal ground etc, something that might have been messing up the signal path. I thought someone might know on here what would cause the problem, as there are some pretty techy people on here.
Ill just have to wait and see what happens.

My Tannoy Reveals are the first red ones, and Its the same room as before.

Cheers.
