In fact, they don't use any coating.
Some coating is better than no coating.

Not if the coatings turn out to support growth of microbial critters like fungus, algae, and molds.

Default Don't trust moulded mains cables!

I bought a second hand scope from an auction site a couple of years ago while building a pair of gainclones.

A standard IEC mains cable was sent with it, which went in the box under the bench.

When the amps' PSUs were mounted, I used that cable to power up, went to check the supply voltages - and got a shock from the chassis. Where I measured 220V AC (Europe).

I checked and re-checked to no avail - what on earth was wrong?

It turned out that the live and ground wires in the (moulded) mains plug cable that came with the scope were inverted. Snipped and binned, pronto!

No damage done to me or the amps, fortunately; although I did wonder whether the scope seller had realised.
