"The Tinkerings of Robert Noyce" - Tom Wolfe

Robert Noyce, one of the 'Traitorous Eight' who left Shockley Semiconductor to found Fairchild, and then went on to found Intel along with Gordon Moore, is profiled by one of my favorite writers. I happened to stumble on a mention of the title of this article, which was originally published in Esquire Magazine in December of '83, and here it turns out that Stanford has preserved this wonderful and lengthy composition.

He's an American treasure, for sure. As for the article, I still am amazed as to what can be found on the web.

I also find it quite interesting to discover how Iowa plays so prominently in the beginnings of electronics.
