Need help to find Joomla Plugin/Extension for my download pages

Hi All,

I'm still very happy to provide my ever growing collection of schematics and service manuals for free download to the diy community

www.audio-circuit.dk

However it has become a very time consuming project to keep the free download list updated, so I was hoping that some in the diy community has more knowledge to Joomla webpages than I have.

Is there a Plugin/Extension to Joomla 1.5.6 where all files in a specific folder (in this case the folder containing schematics and service manuals) will be listed on a page and from where they can be downloaded directly by a visitor. Is there a Plugin/Extension where I just have to upload the files to a folder, and then they are Public without me having to place a "link" to each file. All my schematics and service manuals are PDFs.

Any help appreciated, as I want still be able to offer this service for the community.

Hi Jan,
My solution for you is not Joomla! based. I like Joomla! to and it would be nice if there was one that would pop right into your site perfectly. There might be but I dont know of it. Here is a good one for your needs though.

This is easy to implement and easy to figure out how to use. A few hours and you will know all you need to know. Users will have an easy time as well. I like the ability to nest files and folders and the option for a log in as well as the fact that it keeps track of how many times its downloaded, passwords, great file descriptions, ability to let others be administrators with limited rights.
Check it out I think its fantastic.

I use GoDaddy for hosting. It automatically installs for me from their applications page. I cant find it anywhere on the net now. Seems like a problem with hackers may have put the pafiledb project on hold or maybe just completely done.

If you go to 'demo owl' and then choose 'lite' you will see a page with a folder in it. Click the folder, it opens, it has a pdf in it. So you could have multiple folders even with folders inside them to keep things organized and concise. Then people could drill down to the schematic they want, or whatever file you are hosting, and download it.

It looks more complicated than pafiledb to be sure and I have not used it but it seems that on www.sourceforge.org it is a VERY popular PHP Document Manager, which is what I think you probably want. As long as you can generate MySQL databases or your host will install it for you if its not already there. Usually these programs when installed will generate the MySQL databases themselves and its generally pretty easy. I dont know with this one. Let me take a quick check for Joomla! stuff that might fit the bill.

basically this page is a usable demo of how the software would work if you were a visitor to your site. I like it. Bit flashy though.

This is also a bit flashy and I wish it were more compact. Maybe you can do that on the backend, or perhaps there are skins for it.

This one.. Remository.. looks great. So far my favorite. Drilling down is really easy and when you get to the final folder there is easy to read descriptions of each file.

Ah, this is nice. Basic. Easy. Concise. No Nonsense and no support as well. But the files are not taking up so much space on the page.

This could be the easiest one. Just put folders and files on your server and show them to this Joomla! app and it will allow users to access those files. Might be easily hacked though, not sure.
