Virus Attack Help

Its been few years since i haven't touched my computer now, is there a free program something like adaware or spy & destroy . I already have these two but it can't catch all of the bugs on the computer i also have a AVG program. The problem is a get annoying ads pop up all the time as soon as i open internet explorer and everything is so slow .

Reboot your computer and hit F3 I believe before you see the Windows loading screen
Boot into Safe Mode
Run Spybot and do a full scan using AVG
Reboot
Then install Firefox / Opera / Safari and never touch Internet Explorer again
