Default No sound from my speakers

I have a CD player system comprising:

Marantz Model CD 52 II CD Player
Denon Integrated Stereo Amp. PMA-350, and
Twin Tannoy Sixes Speakers.

The kit is several years old, has been little used, and when bought was considered to be good quality.

Recently the sound was lost after playing a few bars of music. On some occasions there is sound for only a split second, and on others two or three tracks will play before loss of sound.

The speakers are connected with heavy twin-core cable, and this is where a weakness lies. The plugs connecting the cables to the Denon have very shallow holes for the cable ends so there is a tendency for the cable ends to pull out under the cable weight. I've remade the cable connections several times.

I can get normal sound from headphones when connected to the amp, but not when connected to the CD.

No-one near me offers a hifi repair service, Marantz can't help, and the only techie I have been able to talk to about it seemed interested until I mentioned Marantz (Philips), then he said it would be too much trouble and wouldn't touch it.

Can anyone, please, cast light on the nature of the problem and suggest a possible solution?

perhaps it is only a bad connection (oxidation, corrosive).
try to clean the headphone jack at the amp with a contact spray or so...........

Sounds like the first thing is to identify if its the CD player or the Amp/Speakers. Beg or borrow a set of PC speakers with built in amp and connect the CD player to it (a phono to 3.5mm stereo jack should be the cable) .

this should halve the problem
A second audio source (mp3 player, old cassette etc.) will check the amp is working on the CD input (may be quiet) Just make up a suitable cable (the one previously mentioned may do)
