I know basic things - find nice place for domain register and for hosting
second - use some free and good forum machine phbb or something ...... well , I know something little about plain old WYSIWYG web editors , but I know almost nothing about time needed for starting and maintaining small forum ...... just few subforums , nothing fancy .... I'm really not expecting that anyone write here article "how to " , but few thoughts from anyone experienced are welcome ........ as addendum to my own musings before I really start to do anything ...... tia

I may not qualify as "experienced", but I was able to launch a test forum using phpBB (open-source, zero $) on a free webhoster without any problems, some years ago.

Server space isn't much of a problem, unless you plan to use a lot of pictures, allow big attachments etc. Bandwith also should not be a problem, in the beginning.
You start at places like funpic.de (you read german pretty well, don't you?) with zero cost and move to somewhere else once that solution runs out of steam. If you use domain redirection, this can be completely transparent to the users. - Klaus |

I use 110mb.com free hosting. I paid less than 20USD to enable the forum to send emails (notifications and PM's etc) and to enable PHP/MYSQL (This is how the database works on the server to store messages, posts and other settings).
The host is free and I just paid once to upgrade to get the extra functions I needed to run the forum. Hasn't been a great deal of downtime either ..... but there has been some. They have an auto software installer thing too (if you need it) that will install the most commonly used software for you such as forums, blogs etc. My forum uses free SMF (simple machines forum) software and is local too with ~180 members: www.brightonanxietyforum.com Best wishes,
