Default modified sinewave inverter operation

does anybody know how these things work? i looked into the manauls on the net and the modified sinewave looked very similar to a square wave to me!

From what I've read (all comments, nothing authoratative), "modified sine wave" is a square wave with a brief resting period between the positive and negative portions.
