I used Partition Majic to copy one drive to another. I then disconected the first drive and used the copy and it acted fine
for a few weeks. Now after I turn the computer off it starts to load windows and either reboots or freezes. But if I go into safe mode or get to the safe mode login screen then chose to restart the computer will boot up. I don't need this drive and still have the original which works fine I just wonder what could be causing this problem any ideas? |

Hi,
With Windows 98, this could be fixed by opening a DOS prompt and entering "fdisk /mbr" (minus quotes). Can any XPerts here confirm this for XP? (please don't do this until confirmed) Cheers! |

MBR may not be a problem because the safe mode would not start then.
It may be in order for the new hard disk drive not to cause the problem. Since you said it, this worked until a time. There may be a software problem, into which a not desired guest belongs, virus, bugs, worms etc. A motherboard may be or power-supply unit problem. It is necessary to look at the event log in a safe mode of operation, gives a clue maybe. It is necessary to put back the original hard disk drive, excluded with this the hardware problem. The new hard disk drive may be the reason of the mistake possibly of course. Gyuri
