Greg Ball (ampguru) censorship

I completely disagree with the Moderator's actions in censoring any and all links to products and services proferred by Greg Ball.

Either we ban ALL links beyond DIYaudio addresses or we ban none, with the exceptions of illegality and pornography. These and other reasons are probably already adequately covered in the Forum's rules.

Past history and behaviours between individuals on this Forum should not influence censorship policy.

Can we have a view from ALL the Moderators on censorship policy?
Does this collective view vary from the published "rules"?

I wonder if the Moderators will close it or even remove this post to Texas?

How about the attacks on other manufacturers, using DIYaudio as vehicle? He was repeatedly warned, chose to ignore the warnings, and took the consequences.

You make it seem that he was banned because he was a manufacturer, and was banned because he used this forum to push his products. No, it was more complicated than that.

Certainly Greg and I had our differences, BUT, after the first couple of attacks I never reacted AT ALL. I had no part in the banning; with this thread, Andrew, you are trying to sway the membership when in fact you should first be going to the mods privately and arguing the point with them.

Jan,

No problem, great minds.....

But, really, I was not aware that people were permanently banned because of bad relationships with one person?

Several, perhaps, the more conflict, the more the likelihood, but isn't this reasonable since the forum is a community and we all like people to get along?

EDIT:

Andrew, I think this quote from Anatech, Chris, answers your point:

Now for what is known. Greg had the problem of always pushing his designs and ideals, no matter what a thread was discussing. Endless salesmanship. This was the root of his troubles. Now, we are too finicky? Well, DiyHiFi had to get rid of him too - for the same reason.

This is one part of his response, somewhat brief, but it seems to be saying that endless salesmanship - effective abuse of membership according to the 'commercial' forum rules - was the root cause of it. Further, it states that some research indicated this happened again on another forum after banishment from DIYaudio, and that enough was enough.

Since the Greg Ball issue was addressed by Chris, I feel it is somewhat of a betrayal of his position that you should bring it up here without first discussing it in detail with Chris.

In case you already have done so, perhaps you would like to tell us his response, to give him his right of reply, or better still Chris himself could respond.

As forum members, and not Mods, the issue is out of our hands, and I would point out that this forum is not a democracy. The owner pays the bills, appoints Mods, and we play by their rules. Fair enough, too.

provided ampguru does not adopt a sock puppet then the issue of continued or any attacks and/or advertising does not arise.
The link was provided by one Member as a solution to another Member's particular problem.
Much like many other external links are repeatedly posted on this Forum, to help Members.
