Boomy sound

Hello,


My current system is a totem arro speakers driven by one Rega Cursa(pré) + Maia 85w (Power).
I have to change the speaker position and the sound is a little boomy in the 50Hz.

What should i do to stop this and without losing fidelity ?
I don´t know if this is rigth.
Can i use this ?
Or should i go with an Active filter?

Have you tried adding stuffing to the ports?

Sure it's the speaker and not a room resonance? I've got lots of those smash, and they can make even a small speaker sound boomy.

It's a 4.5" two way with two rear firing ports

Yes, it degrades (a little) the midle freq.

Initialy i was thinking of buying the storm Sub. To control the bass but it is to expensive , so I was thinking there must be a cheaper way .

Is it ok to try the circuit ??

Sorry for the confusion, I didn't know the lower port was for weight only.

50hz really isn't a boomy sound. Thats more like a deep low end sound.
4.5 in. speakers means you need some bass (a sub). Is there eq on this or is everything flat?

Since the thing is so small perhaps you are driving it past Xmax for a bad (boomy) sound.

I think you are right, only on some CD´s the booommm appears, like thivery corporation, and others maybe not so well recorded.

Not knowing the box design.


I guess a 2 pole filter with F-3 = 90Hz would be more successfull for loud music. But this will sacrifice your bass.

Maybe a bypass switch for the filter for select.

if the sound changed with positiion its probably the room/speaker interaction. sometimes corner bass traps help (heavey foam triangles that fit in the room corners).

I have mod my old rega Planet, now there is no boom no nothing, only ultraf..good hi-fi sound.
