I'm going to be making a 5.1 setup for my computer, making amps and speakers. Many years ago I was into all this stuff and I'm trying to get my wheels again. Primarily this system will be used for my shoot 'em up/kill 'em games but I do occasionally watch movies and listen to music (think live AC/DC) as well.
I plan on making a 6 channel amp using Leach Low-TIM circuit boards though I will probably cut back on the output transistors since speaker loads, at least for the 5 channels, would be minimal for what that amp can produce; the sub will probably get a full compliment of transistors. To mate with that I was planning on using the Creative Sound FR125S, one for each channel and I have a pair of 10" car stereo speakers that I plan to run in series in some sort of isobaric sub box to make things go BOOM, oh and for movies and music too. Does it sound OK so far? I've read a good bit about the FR125s's and they sound like they are very good but I'm wondering if I wouldn't miss a tweeter, and some stronger mid-bass. I was considering adding a SDX7 to the front L&R, do I need it since I will have a sub to fill in the lows? Oh and before I get flamed by the hi-fi guys I'm planning to start a HT hopefully sometime next year so the experience I get doing this would be very valuable. Thanks for any input! Ryan |

Hi,
No flames from me FR125 would make a great MM system for the computer. Use a sealed box and cross them high though - as big as their Xmax is, they run out of it pretty fast below 100Hz or so Cheers! |
