Default People Are Strange . open letter to one friend

Dear Friend.

I know your situation.

I hope you will get same rights as normal members at diyaudio.com in not too long.
Unfortunately, I do not think this will happen by it self.
Unless you can try to give some (good) moderator a good reason to address your case.
I stopped posting for many months.
When come back, I was still under moderation.

What can one do?

1. Do not post anything that is questioning the moderation system.
Will only put you in one even worse position.
This is very important!!

2. Send some friendly EMAIL to one moderator you have confident in.
Explain how you feel about this.
That you want able to post under same condition as other members.
Even one Newbie, after 5 posts, have better rights than me, an active contributing with many postings.
I had a couple of 1000 of good posts and contributions.
Only a handful was of real questionable sort.
Why should I be judged only by those?
When they even can be moved to Texas or be Deleted.

3. Say that you can not be other than your self,
but you will try to be this in a more moderate way.
So that no other moderation will be necessary.

4. Tell the truth: You are a more hotblooded and impulsive person (my own opinion)
and that this does not have to mean you are one evil and bad man.
People are different.
All can not be calm and slow whatever happens.
And take all things without an honestly annoyed reaction.

5. We are born into different cultures. As children.
We can not expect one italian/greek person, to use same register of expression
as a quiet, thoughtful and correct scandinavian swedish. For example.
South european countires are known to have a more direct way of discussing things.
Using extensive body language and high voices.
Like in countries of Spain, Italy, Greece and also a bit in France.

While Germans and Scandinavians are known for different approach.
They avoid conflicts.
And even in conflict they try to be somewhat rational and diplomatic.

These are some arguments you could put in one message to some wise moderator.
And say one prayer to your god
in hope some good person will listen and consider your points.

I did say to myself, like you, I do not need diyaudio.com.
But it was only my attempt to adjust to the situation.
In reality I am already long ago addicted to this forum.

Many times I have seen the forum people, members and moderators, as my enemy.
Now, I see this site more like a friend, overall taken.
And my relationship is some kind of Love & Hate = Concern.

I hope and pray this situation will be solved.
And you get what you really deserve.
And all people deserve some understanding & forgiveness.

Regards
People are strange . And so is Lineup

I haven't seen a pattern between country of origin and need for moderator action. FWIW.

Let me give you a view from the moderators' side. First, decisions about placing people under moderation (or removing them from moderation) are NOT made by individual mods. These actions are by consensus.

Second, moderation affects about 0.01% of members.

Third, the primary reason that getting put under semi-permanent moderation is work. Mods are volunteers, get no money or special privilege (quite the opposite, it often restricts one's ability to speak one's mind), and hate work. Our work seems to be an extreme case of Pareto's Law- a very few people seem to take up most of our time.

If someone is an unremitting dipstick, we just ban them. If we think that their contributions are valuable and that, maybe, they'll eventually be able to control themselves and comport themselves professionally, we put them under moderation until such a time that the mod staff, as a group, is convinced that they won't make more work for us.

What gets people out of moderation is a continuing pattern of posts that are on-topic and not insulting or whining.

I very much enjoyed our friend lineup's post though, and I think that he made some very good points and gave some good advice. Combined with SY's post I think that everything is covered which is why it has been closed.

As I have often mentioned, I too had problems with the moderation at first. I too admitted my addiction finally!, and I hope have become more interested in what benefits DIY Audio than thinking as much about myself and how I am treated and my clever opinion and who perhaps insulted me. I changed my behavior to meet what is required here, even though perhaps my culture and upgringing was more exuberent, while I hope still keeping some of my personality.

We have allowed many different standards of behavior and aggressiveness over the years, and we have learned what behavior helps make this place the special place that it is. By some of us limiting our natural tendencies a bit, we are able to cooperate amazingly well, and that really is amazing and inspiring when one considers the number of countries and cultures represented here.

The good news, is that unlike a 12 step program, once we admit that we are helpless to control our addiction, we are able to contribute better, but WE DON"T HAVE TO QUIT!!!
