Default Laptop as measuring device ?

Has anyone experiences using a laptop with external USB sound card like the Creative 70SB055A00000
http://www.computergate.com/products...rodcd=MSCC055A ive 70SB055A00000
as a high performance measuring/test device with software like TiePie, Virtins and others.

I know they are running perfect on most PCs with a good sound card, but I don't see many using this on a laptop.

Your question has more to do with the quality of USB/Firewire sound cards rather than laptops, right? You can probably get a pretty nice card, but i have no idea how good is compatibility with the measurement soft. You should check on the software vendor's site.

It has also to do with the performance of the internal sound card on a laptop

From what I understand TiePie only works with the hardware they sell; you can't use it with a soundcard.

theAnonymous1;
You are absolutely right about TiePie. I have been looking at so many systems that I mess them up.
However my is question still stands....

Why? If you are not going to use it anyway?

If I go for e.g. Virtins and to get max value (sampling rate of up to 192kHz and sampling depth of up to 24 bits), I need a good sound card....

if the software works with audio drivers ,getting a good one ,made to record with balanced inputs and decent pre amps, will also give u an ASIO audio driver that if the analyzer software recognizes will lower latency and give's u a much more acurate sample position AD/DA ....on windows xp if u use the windows audio driver u'll never get more then 16 bit into the cpu....
i think resolution, precision and processing speed r important here

assuming u want to measure more or less around sonic spectrum....
firewire r the fastest ,easy to make them quiet, but usb are also good and fast
i have an usb that has 18ins 2outs(24bit96khz)or 12ins 2out(24bit192khz),it handles all that data more midi comands on p4 2ghz 512ram scsi disks 15000rpm,but i have to use the asio driver to really take the 24 bits to the cpu, althoug the same software i use to record with the windows drivers will also make a 24bit file what u get recorded it's 16 bit in quality cause the driver want work more then that(u can tell it just with ur ears)(all has to do with software and the devices being made to work in other enviroment(ASIO)(rtas)(vst) )

maybe u just need a 2 in 2 out of course
check other brands i guess with some bucks u would get something good maybe even to reproduce quality recordings made by u(budget)

if deciding on buying make sure to check compatability beetwen chipsets...or else u might have a real problem....intel is the way to go safelly(usually) with usb
firewire both nec and texas....until 2years ago....

go to a music instrument store website check for recording interfaces or pc recording interfaces
