Boom box tweaks-- need info on how to dismantle a Sharp WQ C0240

Serios question:

How do I get a boom box apart without wrecking it?

Have checked for service manuals at a couple of online sites and come up empty.

The unit is not broken, my normal forum read here is in single driver loudspeakers.

From reading this for years, I've seen some setups just using the
box to run speakers in the shop.

The goal is to just get at the speaker leads and run cable to my
built speakers to test and fool with.

This is a standard box. Looks all molded except for a number of deeply inset screws on the rear.

Grill covers are metal mesh. I don't know if they just pop out.

Everything works on the thing except the playback cassette deck (there is one record deck that works when I checked it last. ) The unit also has a working radio with digital controls and a cd player.

Special tool look like they may be needed-- a fine but long shaft philips. I can't see how removing those will separate the molded case from the works though.

Somebody put this together. I should be able to get it apart.



Any leads on this will help.

Yaaay. I have finally found what looks like a seam.

Screws and screw drivers to get at them (long shaft, fine head) might still be a problem.

I also thought of cutting in from the sides, making a cutout each side for a terminal cup for quick connect/disconnect of speaker projects.

Even my test tone cd works in the box. It's just a matter of getting
inside it.

My build speakers are Fostex FE127e high efficiency full rangers.

I intend to build for others as well.

Oh well. I'll close this subject after this followup.

The message is that this is doable and gives an example of using
chip amps in boom box setups.

I decided to mod my boombox for listening to big speakers (extra ones) back here in the shop. I had seen this done on the speaker forums. The high efficiency speaks play on next to no juice.

I bought a special long neck and fine screw driver to get the case apart so as to first do no harm. The screws (some of them wouldn't budge) are down in there about 6 inches and so the need for the special screw driver at $3.50 from the home store.

Plan B was to cut into the side and just unsolder the speaker
and reconnect a new one on some leads. The leads are real short but I have one outboard test speaker working on some alligator clips. Clips are all I'm going to be able to do. The leads are too short to handle.

One idea would be to wrap some solder foil around one end and
the short lead and heat with a match. I saw this stuff once. Don't know where to get it.

Cutting using a spin bit in my zip tool worked real well. I powered up the box after setting up the clips and nothing on cd. It turns out there was a stray piece of plastic waste right over the optics of the cd player. After removing the mote in god's eye, the box works again.



I had some speaker terminal cups-- the kind that pinch and clip
and I glued those onto the sides where the cutouts are. For hookup with raw speaks went ok. I got sound from both sides.
