Default PC: 1 line out - 3 line in's

Probably a silly question, and 'just go buy a audio splitter'...

I have 1 line out (fm tuner)
and 3 line in's Audigy ZS's
will it affect signal if I to a 3 way split cable...

or am I better of doing a diy 3 x opa2134 splitter of some sorts.

Hello stevodude,
I am a little confused. Are you saying that your audigy has a separate input for each channel, and it has six separate channels, or does it have three separate audio inputs. If it has six separate inputs, I would think that there is some sort of software that will simulate a surround effect from a two channel input. If there are three separate stereo inputs, then you should only need to plug into one of the input sets.
If you do find that you need to split each of the stereo outputs (I am assuming your tuner is stereo) to feed the various inputs, try just using a splitter cable to start. If you find that there are gain issues, then you might need a buffer. If you could post a link to the Audigy, so that people can take a look at the specs, it would help.

Peace,

Dave

The audigy cards are the sb0350, Audigy 2 ZS PCI.

Found link to audigy 2 zs: support.creative.com/audigy2zs

Hey Stevodude, I would have to agree that they don't give much information on the website about the soundcards you have. Do you have the card(s) installed. If so, try looking in the help files and if there is one the online manual for detailed info about the input impedance. They may also have the info in the paperwork that came with the card(s).
I suspect that you should be able to just run a splitter from the output of the tuner to the input of all three cards, and not have a problem, but it's hard to say without knowing the input impedance of the sound cards and the output impedance of the tuner. If you build a buffer amp system, it can't hurt, except for a minor hit in the sonics department.

Peace,

Dave

so I did some googling, and the nearest I found was a range of 10k - 22kohm line-in impedance of some sound blaster cards.
Also that a typical line-out pc card is normally 1Kohm...

So my question would be:
Would I blow something up, sound card, or tv tuner line-out?

If not I'll give it a try.

I own that same exact soundcard. Love the Audigy2 ZS!

You don't have to use ALL THREE line ins to hear your TV/FM tuner. Just use one of them. Your Windows Sound Mixer will have volume controls for the multiple inputs, so make sure you adjust the right one. The audigy2 just has that many inputs so you can add more things, like a home receiver does.

I have a Home Receiver, and I ran out from the "tape out" on the back to line in1 on the Audigy, and it works great. It's nice to be able to record the radio from your computer too

It's common practice with most TV tuners to have the output from the tuner go directly to the line-in on the sound card.

can you route audio line in on one card to output on another card? maybe this can be done with linux/pulseaudio, but would be way too difficult for me.

reason for the above, is if I am in a different 'zone' ie balcony or backyard, then I want to turn radio on the location I am.

I have made the 3way Y cable, and can report that it works fine.

I have wireless and a simple web control to change channel, turn radio on/off(line in) for all the cards/zones. I also have 3 instances of MPD running on the server (1 for each zone), so i can listen to my flac files anywhere, and control radio through my 802.11 wifi/pda/phone device.

:-)
