Disc Tray problem on DVD player.

Has anyone come across disc tray problems on the Panasonic 677A DVD player ?
The tray will not stay open when a disc is ejected. It comes out fully and then immediately closes . I replaced the belt on the pulley that drives the tray but that didn't help.
Just once in a while it does stay open. Maybe one out of 50 tries !

Where are the sensors that tell it that the tray is open ? Could they be faulty or dirty ? The tray does seem fully extended when open. Or is that the problem ? Should be able to check this at the position sensor.

I thought it could be a button problem but it behaves the same way with the remote also.

Normally there is a small switch that does this. U have to open/remove the tray to locate it. It is normally underneath the tray.

I'll check this out. I'm afraid of damaging the ribbon cables by pulling them out many times. Or maybe I'll just wait till the machine dies !
Right now I hold the tray as soon as it comes out and release it when I have either removed the disc or put a new one in.
