Hi,
I am about to order a Toshiba laptop model Satelite pro A120se. Is there anything wrong with this purchase? It's still on XP pro not vista so must be an older model.

Well Andrew, I'm not quite sure of the model, but I used to swear by the Toshiba laptops. All the other brands I swore at.
In a previous job I had to do a lot of graphics and heavy PowerPoint work on the road. The Toshibas were the only thing we'd use. Our computer rental dept. was mighty fond of the Toshiba as well. The Toshiba laptops always worked well, never crashed and most importantly for me, never gave trouble with outboard gear such as projectors, mice, remote controls, networking. etc.. Other brands of laptop were no sot good. But it does seem in the past few year the others have caught up.

Thanks Pano.
Any model specific feedback? Like;- is the integrated sound card any good at grabbing test data? the hard disc chunters? the battery life is good/poor? Things I should know but don't? Screen is good / bad on movies? Screen speed suits/or not fast action?

Hi
just an update to this older thread. Post #194 the Toshiba A120 Laptop is going back. Thanks to all who helped and sorry for wasting so much of your time. Now, I want to know if I can use a Laptop to gather data, eg when testing a power amp for distortion, PC scope etc? What port/s should I be looking for? The Tosh A120 has: RJ45 USB * 3 RJ11 modem jack ext monitor port DC input jack mic jack headphone jack SD card slot PC card slot It has not got a serial port nor a 1394 port nor a mouse/keyboard port.

Andrew, that Toshiba does have an IEEE 1394 port (AKA Firewire port).
Not that it matters now! And it wasn't a waste of time, that's what this forum is supposed to provide for us....help, even when the answer is not a one liner!

The firewire port is blanked off. the Svideo and serial ports are also blanked off.
I thought from the description that it had firewire. This may be a stripped down model to get the price down. The retailer is advertising it as Toshiba 50% off. The instructions show all the optional facilities, but none of them are fitted.

That's just WRONG! When everything you read about this model says it HAS Firewire and they ship it without. No warning that there is a lesser model and this is it.
50% off? What on the parts and components? It's hard to build a laptop., so you have to make the right choice for what you want but on the Desktops, that's a whole different story! PS get XP Professional and let Vista mature for a while. You won't regret it!
