That Akia gadget is also intended for "in store" switching between a variety of sources, power devices and speakers ... not necessarily for consumer consmption ... same as this Sansui. ... thanks Hogo ...

Fun aside: If it can be optained cheaply it would be quite nice for A/B - ing DIY stuff.

I don't know the Akai innards but the Sansui is quite simple and very nicely build. It would be pretty easy to reverse engineer it but who needs so many in and outs?
