Pictures when replying

Why is it, that usually taht the pictures in people's posts are not visible after pressing the "post reply" button.
But, sometimes it happens that they are eg:
Low power tube amp for headphones
Try it on this one! It behaves differently.

The pictures that you are referring to are not being hosted by this forum and where not inserted into the post using the "Attach file" option on our "Post Reply" page. They were inserted into the post as a line of hypertext that links to an image somewhere else on the Net.

Thank you for the explanation. I hadn't thought of that.
Presumably, this gets over the image size restriction too. But the image might disappear at some future time.
