theoretical than the First Edition (1980) you have linked.
I would rather have the First Edition, now that I've perused it.

Thanks for the link! I have the 2nd edition too (and recall that it was listed in the "philosophy" section of Amazon 🙂). The first edition is of course almost completely out of date regarding current metrology techniques, but might be the better choice if you're looking for circuits you can DIY. And the equipment listed is now available at reasonable prices through e-Bay.
