Default Hickok 6000A

On the Hickok 6000A Tube Tester, to test for gas you are supposed to press the test and gas buttons simultaneously.
When I do this the meter immediately drops to Zero.
Is this correct function or do I have a problem?

Also, would anyone have a schematic?

You may want to try Antique Radio forum or DIYTUBE.com as well.
