Default Later Exar 2206 different than earlier?

I needed a quick and dirty oscillator and did the single supply data sheet circuit using an Exar 2206. I prototyped it with some fairly old parts I had and it worked great. New parts just ordered are unstable in the same circuit. The only thing I found on the 'net was a similar problem when running higher (but within datasheet limits) power supply voltages. Has anybody seen or heard about anything like this?

Moved to equipment and tools as I suspect you would be a little more likely to get an answer here..
